H&R Block – Free Tax Prep & eFile
Looking for a way to easily complete your tax return for free this year? I’ve been doing our own taxes the last couple years, but this is the first time I’ve prepared it using an online version rather than the program you buy at the office supply store. I figured, why go buy the program when I’m going to use it once and forget it? By doing it online, there’s no software to buy. The best part is, once you prepare your 2012 return, the following year, when it comes time to do your 2013 return, it will pre-fill the common information when you log into your account, leaving you with a few less steps.
I’ll admit, I used a competitor this year, but this H&R Block program works much the same way. The biggest difference, near as I can tell, is with H&R Block, you can eFile your simple return for free as well as prepare it, unlike the one I used. I wish I had found this one first, but what are you going to do?
It’s so simple to prepare your return too. I just filled out the information, following their step-by-step instructions & questions, signed and eFiled it. They even have a section right on the side where you can get your questions answered. Simply type your question and the help menu will pull up your answer. There is also an option to upgrade and scan in your tax return from last year so you don’t have to enter your personal information manually. I think that feature is pretty cool.
